KING ARTHUR: THE MYTH, THE ROMANCE, THE REALITY. Author of the bestselling King Arthur: The True Story, The Lost Tomb of King Arthur, and The Search for the Grail, Graham Phillips led a one-day tour of Arthurian Winchester. Many places across Britain are associated with King Arthur, but none more than Winchester in southern England. In medieval tales, it was his capital before he moved to Camelot, and it served as the story's setting. In the Middle Ages, it was where the legend was preserved, and 1500 years ago, it was where the Britons united under the historical leader behind the Arthurian legend. On March 22, 2026, it hosted the Earthquest event: King Arthur: The Myth, the Romance, and the Reality, when we delved into the mysteries of Camelot, Merlin, Excalibur, King Arthur's final resting place, and the astonishing story of the Holy Grail.
When? Saturday, 22nd March 2026.
Where? Winchester, England.
At the ruins of Saint Mary’s Abbey, where manuscripts assured the legend’s survival, we learned of ancient documents attesting to Arthur’s existence.
In the Abbey Garden, where Thomas Malory wrote the most famous Arthurian tale, we examined how a Dark Age saga evolved into a romantic medieval epic.
At the Serapis Temple, once a holy well where legend tells the Grail was hidden, we discovered the truth about the vessel believed to have held the blood of Christ.
In the Cathedral Close, where Arthur is said to have drawn the sword from the stone, Graham recounted his search for the truth behind the legend.
In Winchester’s Great Hall, we stood before the Round Table to learn the latest discoveries that directly link the relic and the castle to Arthur’s time.
Within the walls of an ancient fort possibly occupied by Arthur himself, Graham revealed the historical King Arthur, his life, his times, and his demise.
And at the place where local tradition holds that Excalibur was thrown, we discovered the history behind the astonishing story of Arthur’s sword.
